Ilegal Mezcal has a beautifully balanced profile, with a mouth full of agave and a hint of smoke.
Handcrafted in small batches by fourth-generation mezcaleros, our Joven, Reposado, and Añejo mezcals are all made with perfectly ripe, sustainable Espadín agave, double distilled in the Santiago Matatlan Valley of Oaxaca, Mexico.
Commitment to quality is apparent in every step of our process, from harvest to first sip.

Our practices reflect our commitment to sustainability and biodiversity in the Oaxaca region. 100% natural, Ilegal uses no artificial colors, yeasts, flavors, or additives.

We use a combination of new and used American oak, medium char barrels, sourced from Kelvin Cooperage, a family-run business since 1963.
Handcrafted in small-batches, Ilegal Mezcal has a beautifully balanced profile, with a mouth full of agave and a hint of smoke. A unique and complex taste for those who enjoy sipping spirits like tequila, bourbon, or craft gin.
While our mezcal is perfect neat, it is exceptional in cocktails – originals and reimagined classics alike. Check out our signature mezcal cocktail recipes, and try Ilegal as the base spirit in a Mezcal Margarita, a Mezcal Mule, or your favorite cocktail.

We are excited to announce our collaboration with Van Leeuwen. Ilegal will be an ingredient in Van Leeuwen’s January flavor of the month, inspired by the Paloma cocktail. Click the link below to find out where you can enjoy the Ilegal, Guava and Grapefruit Sorbet.

SUSU
In September of 2019, Ilegal Mezcal partnered with Niles City Sound in Fort Worth, Texas, to make the Untitled Music Project a reality and record the newly formed supergroup SUSU. With Liza Colby and Kia Warren at the helm, producer Josh Block brought together a group of Musicians whose touring credits include Leon Bridges, Carrie Underwood, and Ben Harper, among many more.
Since our founding, Ilegal Mezcal has strived to build the sort of community & environment that Café No Sé, the birthplace of Ilegal, has long provided artists and musicians.
This year, in order to keep our friends, families, and partners safe, we have cancelled large scale, in-person events and introduced new virtual programming. We are in this together, and we look forward to bellying up to the bar with you again soon.

So you consider yourself pretty eco-conscious—you frequent the farmer’s market, your recycling game is on point, and you shop locally. But what about what you’re drinking? That bottom-shelf stuff may quench happy hour cravings, but perhaps it’s time to put something greener in your glass—and no, we don’t mean Chartreuse.

Ilegal has announced that they have hired and promoted women as the COO, CMO, VP of trade marketing and trade marketing manager, all working hard to maintain the brand’s position as one of the leading small-batch artisanal mezcals on the market. Members Michelle Ivey, Kaylan Rexer, Trish Mannion and Kelsey Grandi, respectively, now make up over half of the executive leadership board.
